bad hair director

Allright - so I'm getting back on the blog train. Promises. Promises.

2 years ago I directed 3 plays in a row - it was a miserable experience - by the end of it I was exhausted, tired, and for reasons I still don't understand I moved and adopted two weiner dogs during the middle of it. Insult to injury, Jean-Paul, the production manager told me that I'd never had worse hair than during tech for the 3rd show. I promised myself I would never do 3 shows in a row again - never, never, never.

Well, then Nicholas Nickleby (which I co-directed, which was show 2 and 3), was named to the Top Ten of every paper in the Bay Area, and we (Jon and I) won both local directing awards - and the show became the #1 and #2 top selling shows in the theater's 32 year history - odd how such things have a way of changing your memory.

So, when Actors Theater asked me to direct 3 shows in a row for the fall, of course I said "sure, it went so well last time!". Oh lord, so here we go - Hedwig and The Angry Inch, Santaland Diaries, and Christmas Carol - in fact there is one week where I'm in rehearsal for SLD and CC at the same time - get ready for the magic. And yes, I'm directing two shows in a row that feature gay men talking about Phil Collins. Is there even a third one out there? No Jacket Required: The Musical?

Though this time I'll be smarter about it - during Show 3, I'm totally getting a hat.
