Three things I have noticed that make Louisville different from San Francisco

1) You can park – it’s amazing, you drive places, and then when you get there, you pull over and just stop your car. Really, I can’t get enough of this thing people call parking.
2) My American money goes incredibly far in this town. I got a round of drinks the other night – the bartender said they were 5 dollars – I corrected him saying I was paying for the whole round – he replied “I know, five dollars”. AMAZING.
3) When you’re in the paper, people on the street stop you to talk to you about it. In the Bay Area, unless you were sleeping with the Mayor, you’re probably not being read about – though you’re probably being recycled properly.

geek love

The best part of standing in line for HARRY POTTER at Powell's in Portland wasn't that we saw a girl get so excited that she licked the book (though that was rather fabulous). It was that at one point, some drunk frat guy (we'll call him Chet) walked by and slurred "what are you all waiting for Harry Potter or something" - and suddenly the whole line stood up straight and slowly moved towards him.

As though, for once in our geek life, we weren't going to let some football player take our lunch money or put our head in the toilet - there was a surge of geek pride as we gave him the frowning of a life-time. Chet backed away quickly as the line moved towards him and stumbled off into the night.

Everyone looked around and nodded their heads, this night was ours. With our foe vanquished, we all qucikly returned to our conversation about how there was no way the movie of the GOLDEN COMPASS would be as good as the book. Seriously, it just won't be.

little article

Well, even though they got my title wrong - I'm the Associate Artistic Director, not the Assistant Artistic Director - it's still a rather sweet article about my arriving here -

  • Little Article

  • The funny thing is - in other towns, people might send you emails about this kind of thing - last night, two people stopped me on the street to say congrats - it's a different kind of town.

In other news - the wife and I purchased iphones - it's rather amazing - I think it actually directs shows for you. Brilliant.
